Two Chhatra League leaders remanded in A. League leader's murder case

Dhaka, February 11, 2024: The court has granted three-day remand to two Chhatra League leaders accused of beating to death Awami League leader Shariful Islam (44) in Kurigram.

Judge Majnu Mia gave this order after the hearing at Kurigram Sadar Amli Court on Saturday afternoon.

The police applied for a five-day remand against them. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kurigram Sadar Police Station. Masudur Rahman informed about the remand of two leaders of Chhatra League.

The two Chhatra League leaders are Sadar Upazila Chhatra League general secretary Rezvi Kabir Chowdhury alias Bindu and Kurigram Polytechnic Institute Chhatra League president Jhinuk Mia.

Two Chhatra League leaders were accused of beating to death Shariful Islam Swan (40), the treasurer and businessman of the municipal Awami League, in the Khalilganj Bazar area of the district headquarters on Friday evening.

Later, within two hours of the incident, the police arrested the two accused Chhatra League leaders. After 12 o'clock on Friday night, Rozina Begum (33), the wife of the slain Awami League leader, filed a murder case at Kurigram Sadar police station, naming four people and accusing eight unknown people.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kurigram Sadar Police Station. Masudur Rahman said that the police arrested the two accused BCL leaders within two hours of the incident on Friday.

Later at 12 midnight, the wife of the slain Awami League leader filed a murder case.

After showing the arrest of two Chhatra League leaders in that case, the court asked for a five-day remand, and the learned court granted a three-day remand. Efforts are on to arrest the other two accused in the mayhem and murder case.
