Dhaka, August 23: Nakano Erico, a Japanese citizen, has filed a writ petition in the High Court in Dhaka seeking the return of her two children after a breakup with Sharif Imran, an American citizen of Bangladeshi descent. The High Court has directed them to appear in court by August 31.

Meanwhile, CID Additional Superintendent of Police Jisanul Haque confirmed to media on Sunday (August 22) that the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) had rescued the two girls. They are currently in CID custody. He did not say when or where they were rescued.

Earlier on Thursday (August 19), the Japanese national filed a writ petition in the High Court seeking the return of her children. The writ asked for an order to get the two children to their mother Erico. Supreme Court lawyer Mohammad Shishir Monir filed the writ petition on behalf of Erico in the relevant branch of the High Court. In the writ petition, a virtual bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Mostafizur Rahman directed Sharif Imran and his sister, a US citizen of Bangladeshi descent, to appear in court in person, along with Erico's two children.

It is learned that on July 11, 2008, Japanese citizen Nakano Erico (46) and Bangladeshi American Sharif Imran (58) got married according to Japanese custom. After marriage they started living in Tokyo. They had three daughters during the 12-year marriage period. On January 18, 2021, Sharif Imran filed for divorce from Erico. On January 21, Imran appealed to the ASIJ school authorities to take his daughter Jasmine Malik away. But the school authorities rejected Erico's offer without his consent. Imran later took his daughters Jasmine and Lina to another rented house from the bus stoppage on their way home on the school bus.

Later on January 25, Sharif Imran, through his lawyer, applied to Erico to hand over his children's passports. But Erico denied it. On January 28, Erico filed a lawsuit in Tokyo Family Court seeking an interim injunction seeking custody of her children. The court ordered her to visit the children as a family on February 7, 11 and 14. However, Imran violated the court order and allowed his two daughters to meet their mother only once.

On the other hand, Imran applied for a new passport for his daughters on February 9 and received a new one on February 17. Later, on February 21, Imran moved to Bangladesh with his two daughters Jasmine and Laila via Dubai.

On July 18, Erico came to Bangladesh through Sri Lanka. Imran asked Erico to return to Japan from Sri Lanka. After arriving in Bangladesh, Erico underwent Covid-19 test, the result of which was negative. However, Imran refused to let the children meet her.
