Two killed as bus collides with train in Gazipur

Dhaka, November 7: Two people, including a woman, were killed when a train collided with a labor bus in Sonakhali area near the high-tech park at Kaliakair in Gazipur near the capital. Four others were injured. The incident took place at dawn on Saturday (November 7).

The deceased were identified as Masud Rana, 35, and Rahima Akhter, 40. Their detailed identities were not immediately known. The injured have been admitted to Kaliakair Upazila Health Complex.

Meanwhile, after the incident, all types of trains running from Dhaka to North Bengal were stopped. When the accident-hit bus was removed from the engine of the train at around 10:15 am, the rail communication became normal.

Mostafizur Rahman, director of the train, said the intercity Nilsagar Express train, which left Chilahati, was going to Dhaka via Kaliakair upazila of Gazipur around 4:30 am. As the train was leaving the Kaliakair Hi-Tech Park area, it collided with a bus carrying workers at a railway crossing in the area. The train stopped after going some distance.

Kaliakair Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Monowar Hossain said two workers on the bus were killed and four others were injured in the collision. The injured are all bus passengers. Among the dead, Rahima died on the spot and Masood died at the hospital.

He added that upon receiving the news, the Kaliakair Fire Service personnel removed the bus stuck in front of the engine of the train around 10:15 am. At present Dhaka's rail communication with North Bengal is normal.
