Dhaka, March 5: UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres has congratulated Bangladesh in a video message for qualifying to move from the list of least developed countries to developing countries.

State Minister for Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Junaid Ahmed Palak posted the video message on his Facebook page on Thursday (March 4th). Although the UN Secretary General gave the video message in English, it was subtitled in Bengali.

"I am delighted that Bangladesh has qualified to move from the list of least developed countries in the world to a developing country. This passage clearly indicates that the country is working to establish an inclusive and growing economy with a commitment to alleviate poverty and hunger for millions of people," he said.

He said, "I also commend Bangladesh for its success in empowering women and expanding educational opportunities. Transition as a developing country is a milestone for Bangladesh. Foresight, strong national leadership and prudent policies and activities to establish Bangladesh as a middle income country and implement Sustainable Development Agenda 2030. It's very important. The United Nations will continue to support Bangladesh in this transition."
