United States Assistant Secretary Rena Bitter coming to Dhaka

Dhaka, Sept 26: United States Assistant Secretary of Consular Affairs Rena Bitter is coming to Bangladesh. She will visit Pakistan and Bangladesh from Monday 25 September to 2 October. The US Department of State announced this information in a press release on Monday.

It said that Assistant Secretary of Consular Affairs Rena Bitter will visit Islamabad, Karachi and Dhaka from Monday 25th September to 2nd October. During the visit, she will meet embassy and consulate staff and observe consular activities.

During her visit to Pakistan and Bangladesh, Rena will discuss consular issues with the concerned officials of the two countries. Her visit will underscore the United States' deep and enduring commitment to protecting foreign nationals and facilitating legal travel and immigration to the United States.

Meanwhile, US Ambassador to Dhaka Peter Haas said that the media will also be included in the visa policy in the future. He said this in an interview at the office of private television 'Channel 24' on Sunday.

Peter Haas said the United States has begun imposing visa restrictions on people responsible for disrupting the democratic election process in Bangladesh. Government party, opposition party and law and order forces have come under this. In future, the media will also be included in the visa policy.

Earlier on Friday, the United States State Department said in a statement that today steps are being taken to impose visa restrictions on people who obstruct the democratic election process in Bangladesh.

US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller said in the statement, "The State Department is taking steps today to impose visa restrictions on Bangladeshi individuals responsible for or involved in undermining the democratic election process. Among them are members of law enforcement agencies, members of the ruling party and members of the political opposition."
