Dhaka, January 17: The Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) campus has been rocked by student protests in protest of the indefinite closure of the campus. Students are demanding the resignation of Vice-Chancellor Professor Farid Uddin Ahmed as well as reconsideration of the decision to close campus and residential halls. They are adamant not to leave the campus without fulfilling their demands.

Students begin to gather on campus after 9:00 am on Monday (January 17). Students from five dormitories are marching in processions, marching on the campus's roundabout. On the other hand, additional police have been deployed on the campus along with armored vehicles to avoid any untoward situation.

Until the last report was written at 12 noon, the students were protesting on the campus. Authorities closed the campus indefinitely after a student-police clash on Sunday. At the same time, the students were instructed to leave the hall by 12 noon. But the students have been protesting against the decision of the university administration.

The agitating students said they would stick to their decision to stay on campus until the trial of the police attack on the students and the resignation of the vice-chancellor.

Students blocked Vice Chancellor Professor Farid Uddin Ahmed at the university's IICT building around 3pm on Sunday. Later in the evening, when he went to rescue her, the students clashed with the police. At least 30 people were injured, including five policemen, 10 teachers-officers-employees and 15 students.

Police then fired 26 rubber bullets and 21 sound grenades to disperse the students, disperse the students and bring them to his residence.

Begum Sirajunnesa Chowdhury is the starting point of the incident centering on the student movement in protest of the attack on the three-point demand and position program including the resignation of the Provost Body. The students were protesting for the fourth day on Sunday. However, the campus has been heated since the afternoon.
