UP Election Clash UP election: Clashes in Barisal and Bhola, 2 killed
Dhaka, June 21: Two people were killed in clashes and bomb blasts outside polling stations during the UP election on Monday in Char Fashion, Gournadi and Bhola in Barisal. Several others were also injured.
According to the police, a young man named Md. Monir (25) was killed in a clash and shooting between the supporters of the member candidates in Bhola Char Fashion. One person was injured at the time. The incident took place on Monday (June 21) at around 11:30 am in front of the polling station of Charafkira Primary School in Ward 5 of Hazariganj Union under Shashibhushan Police Station. The deceased was identified as Monir, son of Mohammad Bashirullah of the same union and ward. He is a supporter of the football symbol candidate.
According to locals, polling was going on at Char Fakira Primary School around 11:30 am on Monday. Monir was killed in a shootout between supporters of football symbol candidate Yasin and water tap symbol candidate Yusuf Sikder. One person was injured, whose identity has not yet been found. The person is presently in hospital.
Bhola Superintendent of Police (SP) Sarkar Mohammad Kaiser said one person was killed in clashes and shootings between two groups over possession of the center. Another was injured. The situation is currently under control.
Meanwhile, a man named Mouza Ali Mridha (65) was killed in a cocktail explosion at Gournadi in Barisal. Two others were injured at the time. The incident took place at around 2pm on Monday (June 21) in the area adjacent to Kamalapur Government Primary School in Khanjapur Union of the upazila.
Barisal Range DIG SM Akhtaruzzaman confirmed the incident. He said a minor went to the center to cast his vote. The issue was challenged by voters. At one stage of the argument between the locals, there were chases and clashes.
The incident spread outside the center. Mouza Ali Mridha was injured in the cocktail explosion at that time. When he was taken to Gournadi Upazila Health Complex in critical condition, the on-duty doctor declared him dead. Two others were injured in the incident.
