Bangladesh-US US citizens advised to move cautiously
Dhaka, May 22: The US Embassy in Dhaka has advised US citizens in Bangladesh to exercise caution. This warning was given ahead of the National Assembly elections.
A warning posted on the US Embassy website titled 'Demonstration Alert' on Sunday (May 21) said Bangladesh's next general election is expected to be held before or after January 2024. In the meantime, the gathering of political parties and other election activities have started in view of that election. As elections approach, the level of political rallies and protests may increase. US citizens in Bangladesh should exercise caution in view of possible scenarios.
The warning also states that US citizens should be aware that peaceful protests can turn violent. In this situation, citizens should avoid demonstrations and exercise caution around large gatherings.
The warning urges US citizens to follow certain advice. These are - Avoiding public gatherings and protests, being aware of your surroundings, watching local media regularly, always carrying a charged mobile phone for emergency communication.
