Dhaka, July 12: An 8-member delegation led by US State Department Under Secretary for Civilian Security, Democracy and Human Rights Uzra Zeya visited the Ukhia Balukhali Rohingya camp in Cox's Bazar.

Among the officials of the delegation were US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia Donald Lu and Anjali Kaur, Deputy Assistant Administrator of USAID's Asia Office.

Cox's Bazar Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner Mizanur Rahman said that the convoy of the US delegation reached Rohingya Camp No. 9 in Ukhia, Cox's Bazar at around 11 am today. Upon reaching there, they first visited the registration center of the United Nations refugee agency UNHCR. After that, he visited the ongoing activities of various international organizations. The delegation interacted with Rohingya community leaders, Imams, women and children.

After visiting the camp area, the US delegation is scheduled to participate in a meeting with various international organizations and government officials at the Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner's office in Cox's Bazar in the afternoon. Related sources said that the delegation will leave Cox's Bazar for Dhaka today.

APBn Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police (Media) Farooq Ahmed said special security has been taken in the Rohingya camp area in view of the visit of the delegation. Members of the law enforcement agencies are on high alert.
