Dhaka: The United States has donated another 96 lakh doses of Covid-19 vaccine made by Pfizer to Bangladesh.

Earl R. Miller, the US ambassador to Dhaka, said hundreds of thousands more doses were being sent.

A statement from the embassy on Saturday quoted the US ambassador as saying, "The United States has so far provided 26 million doses of free vaccines to Bangladesh. Several lakh more doses of vaccine are on their way to Bangladesh. The new grant will enable Bangladesh to expand vaccination campaigns to give booster doses to frontline workers and senior citizens across the country.

Miller said, "We salute the brave Bangladeshi healthcare workers and support partners and stand by them. We are working together to deliver a healthier, brighter future for our two peoples. "

The supply of Pfizer vaccines is part of the US commitment to provide one billion doses of vaccine worldwide by 2022 to lead the fight against COVID-19 worldwide, the statement said. In addition to these vaccines, the United States has been working closely with the Bangladesh National Covid-19 immunization campaign and strengthening government measures to combat the epidemic.

The United States has so far donated more than ১২ 121 million worth of coronavirus vaccines to Bangladesh through covid-related development and humanitarian assistance through USAID, the US Department of Defense, the US State Department, and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

So far, the United States has donated কো 4 billion worth of Covid-19 vaccine to the global Covacs effort. As a result, the United States has become the largest donor to the equitable distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine.
