Dhaka, December 19: Vehicles will run on the Padma Bridge from 2022. Road Transport and Bridges Minister and Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader said this.

He said, "There was not the slightest lack of transparency in the construction of the Padma Multipurpose Bridge with its own funds and vehicles will run on the Padma Bridge from 2022."

The bridge minister was speaking as the chief guest at a discussion meeting held at Setu Bhaban in Bananistha on Friday (December 16) morning to mark the Great Victory Day 2020 and inaugurate the "Bangabandhu, Liberation War and Bangladesh" corner on Mujib's centenary.

The Minister further said, "The nation is united today under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to carry out the pledge of the War of Liberation with the spirit of victory."

Meanwhile, all speculations and rumors have come to an end and finally the Padma Bridge is nearing its final implementation. When the government and its supporters are excited about this, the BNP and its allies are in a lot of discomfort. The discomfort in the speeches of the leaders is not undisclosed.

In January 2016, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia said in a statement about the Padma Bridge, "The government is dreaming of the Padma Bridge. But the Padma Bridge will not be during the tenure of Awami League. This bridge is being built with patchwork. No one will get on this bridge. There are a lot of risks. '

But at that time the top leaders of the BNP also made similar statements in tandem with the party chief. BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir also said, "Khaleda Zia did not say that if the Padma Bridge is built on a wrong and wrong design, it will not last."

Although the implementation of the project has been delayed, the Padma Bridge is now fully visible. With this, the tide of excitement is flowing among the leaders and workers of the ruling party. Civil society and well-wishers are not holding back. But the responsible leaders of the BNP did not say anything immediately about this, nor did the party give any official response.

Mahmudur Rahman Manna, convener of the BNP-led National Unity Front-affiliated Citizens' Unity, called the Padma Bridge a good initiative of the government but questioned the cost of construction.
