Dhaka, April 18: On the occasion of the upcoming holy Eid-ul-Fitr, vehicles without fitness will not be able to ply on the roads and highways in order to make the journey of people home safe and smooth. Battery-powered three-wheelers will also not run on highways.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun said these things in a discussion meeting with transport owners and labor leaders on the occasion of holy Eid-ul-Fitr at the Hall of Pride of Police Headquarters on Monday afternoon.

Additional IGP (Administration) Md. Kamrul Ahsan, DMP Commissioner Khandaker Golam Farooq, Additional IGP of Special Branch Md. Monirul Islam, Additional IGP (Crime and Operations) Md. Atiqul Islam, Additional IGP of Naval Police Md. Shafiqul Islam and others were present in the meeting.

The IGP requested the transport owners and labor leaders not to carry extra passengers in vehicles, on the roof of buses and in vehicles carrying goods.

The transport owners and labor leaders assured to provide necessary assistance to the police in the next Eid as in the past. The IGP expressed hope that if we all work together, the people's Eid journey will be smooth.

Later, the IGP held a virtual meeting with all Metropolitan Police Commissioners, Range DIGs and District Superintendents of Police.

In the meeting, the IGP said that keeping in view the upcoming Eid, the duty should be performed with professionalism to ease the traffic jam and control the law and order.

He said, recently there have been incidents of fire in various markets. In this case, work should be done in coordination with the market committee. As soon as any untoward incident occurs, quick action should be taken to control the situation. Security measures in commercial, shopping malls and markets should be continued.

The IGP directed the police officers to strengthen security at the homes of people leaving the city on Eid.

He said, if we all perform our duties with sincerity and devotion, we will be able to give a beautiful Eid gift.
