Elections | US Visa Visa policy has nothing to do with fair polls in Gazipur: EC Alamgir
Dhaka, May 29: Election Commissioner (EC) Md Alamgir said that the new visa policy announced by the United States has nothing to do with the free and fair elections in Gazipur City Corporation.
He said, "We have to prepare for the election 45 days in advance. We don't even know what the US visa policy is. We didn't even get a chance to read it, we were busy with the election. Visa policy has nothing to do with fair elections in Gazipur. If the law is not followed in the election, whoever he is, the EC will take action as per law."
EC Md Alamgir said these things in response to a question while talking to reporters at his office in Agargaon election building in the capital on Sunday.
He said, "Through the fair elections in Gazipur City, the image of the Election Commission, including the government, has improved. It is not important to the Election Commission what foreigners want. The Election Commission is working according to the constitution and laws, and will continue to do so in the future. The Election Commission is a free and independent institution. In this case, there was no pressure from the government."
EC Md. Alamgir said, "Those who criticize, they always criticize. The Election Commission will ensure equal opportunities for all those who come to the polls. It will be ensured that the voters can vote freely. Like Gazipur, all the upcoming elections will be fair. The EC will do everything. Everything will be done by the Election Commission for a fair election."
