Narayanganj Elections Voters will choose elephant symbol to get rid of deprivation: Taimur
Dhaka, December 15: Leaders and activists of BNP as well as Jatiya Party also took part in the procession of independent mayoral candidate Taimur Alam Khandaker on the last day of campaigning for Narayanganj City Corporation election. On Friday (January 14) afternoon, he held a street rally with thousands of people in the port.
Earlier in the morning, however, at a press conference, Taimur complained that the Election Commission was incompetent. He alleged that even if the Awami League candidate violated the code of conduct, no action was being taken. On the contrary, BNP leaders and activists were being arrested for intimidation and old cases.
He said that rumours of his withdrawal from the election were being spread.
He started his election campaign by holding a press conference at the main election camp in Missionpara area of the city around 10:30 am. He then held a closed-door meeting with the polling agent at his residence in Masdair at 11:00 am. Polling agents have been instructed to remain at the polling stations, no matter how intimidating or coerced they may be.
Later in the afternoon, Taimur Alam Khandaker took part in a road rally at Siraj Uddaula ground in the port. Jatiya Party leader and chairman of Musapur Union Parishad Maksud Hossain, former chairman of Bandar Upazila and BNP leader Ataur Rahman Mukul brought the procession there. Thousands of BNP and Jatiya Party leaders and activists took part in the procession. He then made public connections at various places in the port area.
Taimur Alam Khandaker told reporters that voters would cast their votes in the elephant symbol to get rid of 18 years of suppressed anger and deprivation. Addressing the voters, he said that if they want a change of fortune, they should remove all fears and go to the polls with smart cards to cast their votes in the elephant symbol.
