Covid-19 kills another 16, 697 new patients identified

Dhaka, January 18: Another 16 more people have died in the country in the past 24 hours- in between Sunday and Monday- after being infected with the coronavirus. The total number of deaths has risen to 7,922.

Meanwhile, 697 people have been identified during the aforementioned 24 hours. The total number of victims has risen to 5,28,329.

An official press release said 736 people have recovered in the past 24 hours. So far, 4,73,173 people have been cured.

Samples have been collected and tested in 199 labs under public and private management across the country. Of these, 115 are RT-PCR labs, 26 are gene-experts and 56 are rapid antigens. In these labs 12 thousand 829 samples have been collected in 24 hours. A total of 12,707 samples have been tested. So far 34 lakh 70 thousand 160 samples have been tested.

It was further informed that the rate of sample test in the last 24 hours is 5.49 percent. So far, the detection rate is 15.22 percent, the recovery rate is 89.56 percent and the mortality rate is 1.49 percent.

The notification said that out of 16 people killed in 24 hours, 12 were men and four were women. Of these, 11 were residents of Dhaka division, three from Chittagong division and one each from Rajshahi and Mymensingh divisions.
