Dhaka, May 27: Foreign Minister Dr. Ak Abdul Momen has said that Bangladesh does not recognise Israel as a country, so if any Bangladeshi travels to the country, he or she will be punished. The minister made the remarks at a handover ceremony of medicines to Palestinians at the state guest house Padma in the capital on Wednesday (May 26).

Palestinian Ambassador to Dhaka Yusuf S. Y. Ramadan, Foreign Secretary Masood bin Momen, Beacon Pharmaceuticals MD Ebadul Karim were present on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Momen said, "Bangladesh is a tested friend of Palestine. We have been by their side since 1972."

"We do not recognise Israel as a country. As long as we do not recognise it, no Bangladeshi can go there. Any Bangladeshi who goes there will be punished," he said.

Dr. Momen said, "Some media outlets in Bangladesh are creating confusion about passport amendments. But our position on Israel is very clear. Our position on Palestinian policy has not changed."

At the ceremony, medicines worth Tk 4,00,000 were given to Palestine. These materials will be provided to the victims of the recent Israeli attack on Palestine.
