Dhaka, March 25: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has called upon the countrymen and the world to build an egalitarian society free from all forms of discrimination and sectarianism.

She said, "We do not want war and conflict, the killing of men, women and children pains us deeply. We believe in peace. If sustainable peace prevails, the overall development of the country accelerates. We follow Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's policy of peace in running the state."

She called upon the countrymen and the people of the world to build a society based on equality free from all kinds of discrimination and sectarianism.

The Prime Minister made this call in a message given on the occasion of 'Genocide Day' today, March 25. On this day in 1971, the Pakistani invasion forces conducted the world's most brutal massacre in Bangladesh. With a heavy heart she remembered all the martyrs who laid down their lives on the night of March 25, 1971, whose oath of fresh blood inspired the brave Bengalis to take up arms and continue fighting till independence was achieved.

She said that Yahya secretly left Dhaka during the non-cooperation movement on the evening of March 25. In the middle of the night, Pakistani soldiers with armored tanks launched 'Operation Search Light' to kill sleeping unarmed Bengalis. Dhaka University, Peelkhana and Rajarbagh were attacked and students and teachers, Bengali police and military personnel were killed. Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib was arrested in the early hours of March 26. Immediately before this, the Father of the Nation wrote the final declaration of independence - "This may be my last message, from today onwards Bangladesh will continue to fight until it achieves its final victory." Which was first broadcast through the wireless of EPR and immediately this message spread nationwide through the leaders and activists of Awami League and Chhatra League.

The Prime Minister said that the Pakistanis inhumanely tortured the imprisoned leader Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib; Even tried to kill him. On June 13, journalist Anthony Mascarenhas published a detailed article on the front page of a British newspaper based on the real picture of brutal brutality of Pakistanis on Bengalis, which accelerated the creation of world opinion in favour of Bangladesh. In the nine months long armed war, 3 million people were martyred, 2 lakh mothers and sisters lost their dignity and the whole country became a pile of ruins. Finally, independent sovereign Bangladesh was established by achieving the final victory on December 16.
