Dhaka, October 18: Speaking at the inauguration and award ceremony of Sheikh Russell Day-2021 at Bangabandhu International Conference Center in the capital on Monday, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said her government wants to build a non-communal Bangladesh.

"We want to build a non-communal Bangladesh. We want to build a developed and prosperous Bangladesh. We want to build a golden Bangladesh. There will be no crime in that country. There will be no injustice. People want to live well, that's what I want," she said.

"I have made a perspective plan for what this Bangladesh will look like in the future. There should be no killings, coups, conspiracies on the way to the future of Bangladesh. May the people of Bangladesh live well. No more children have to be killed in this way by the bullets of the killer. I will make this call to the whole nation that today's children are the future of tomorrow. So I want to give them security, to give them love, to make them beautiful, to make their lives selfish, to make them meaningful, that's what everyone wants, that's what everyone wants to be," she said.

"Killing a child means a threat to the lives of millions of children. In independent Bangladesh, we have seen the way the Pakistani aggressors carried out genocide in this country. But they did not spare the children. They also killed newborns and babies in the mother's womb. We have seen the recurrence of that incident after the October 2001 elections. BNP-Jamaat have carried out massacres in different parts of Bangladesh in the same manner as the Pakistani aggressors," the Prime Minister said.

"How many people have been killed since the 15 of August, 1975. There have been 19 coups in this army. If there are 19 coups in an army, no one can claim that there is discipline in that army. And thousands of military officers have been killed in a single coup. Many families did not find the bodies. At the same time, political leaders and activists have also been unspeakably tortured. Especially on the leaders and workers of Awami League. They have been tortured day after day. Again, we have seen exactly that," Sheikh Hasina added.

Recalling Sheikh Russel, the Prime Minister said, "If anyone asked him what he wanted to be, he said I would be in the army. He will be an army officer, that was his goal in life."
