IGP Benazir Ahmed Why I am on the US sanctions list: IGP
Own Correspondent, Dhaka, Sept 3: Questioning the US sanctions, Bangladesh Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr. Benazir Ahmed said, "They alleged that RAB had forcibly disappeared 600 people. But I entered RAB in 2015. So why have I been included in that list?"
The US Citizen Committee welcomed the visiting IGP to New York at the Gulshan Terrace Auditorium near Jackson Heights. At that time, the IGP said these.
This information was shared in a press release sent by AIG (Media and PR) Md. Kamruzzaman of Police Headquarters on Friday (September 2) evening. The United States Awami League leader Hindal Qadir Bappa presided over the event. Consul General of Bangladesh in New York Dr. Mohammad Monirul Islam was present among others.
"I don't want to blame the US administration or the Americans. Because, it was done by those who did not vote for Bangabandhu's boat in the 1970 election, and who were against the liberation war in 1971," the IGP said at the event.
He said the group hired four lobbyist firms at a cost of USD 25 million annually. That mercenary firm has been trying for three consecutive years for alleged sanctions against Bangladesh.
Dr. Benazir Ahmed raised questions about the US ban and said, "In 2009, I was working as the first secretary of the Bangladesh mission in New York. The real truth is that no list of the 600 people who have been reported missing has been published anywhere."
He said, "We won by fighting for freedom. Now the liberation struggle is going on. This fight continues. This fight must be won. The conspiracy against the country, against development, and against progress must be stopped."
The IGP also said that at one time it was thought that social media would revolutionize journalism. But the police chief asked the question 'What are we really seeing' and said that it was hoped that the documentary of the society would come out in detail. But now it is seen that as much fake, absurd information is being revealed.
He said, there are 22 information terrorists. They have to answer.
