Dhaka, March 30: The Election Commission (EC) has sent two letters to BNP proposing dialogue. However, the party did not participate in the EC dialogue. EC has once again written to BNP for discussion. In view of this, BNP leaders have said in various meetings and media that if the EC wants to discuss the return of caretaker government system, then they will think about it.

Election Commissioner (EC) Md. Alamgir said about BNP's statement, "They (BNP) have not told us anything about this. If they tell us this by writing to us, then we will discuss it."

He said this in response to reporters' questions at the Agargaon election building in the capital on Wednesday.

EC Md. Alamgir said, "They (BNP) have not spoken to us so far. After the formation of the commission, our work is with all the political parties. The advantages and disadvantages of each group will be discussed. I will arrange a fair election. This is our job."

He said, "Once the letter was given, they (BNP) did not come. Another letter was sent, but it did not come. We wrote for the third time, if they come... discuss... And the commission has no comment on their political statement, it is also stated in the letter."

Md. Alamgir said, "Political parties are independent. According to the prevailing laws of the country - they can take any decision. If they feel that we are interested in discussing this issue, we will sit down if they tell us. If we see that it can be negotiated, then it will be negotiated. If we have something to do, I will definitely try my best."

Referring to the issue of political parties not appearing in the elections, he further said, "EC has not been given the legal right to forcibly bring any political party to the elections. Does the commission have any power to force a party to come to the election for strategic reasons? Yes, what the commission has in law is that if a party boycotts elections twice in a row, then the commission can cancel their registration. But if a party does not come to the election, the commission has nothing to do."
