Woman among two killed in road accident in Dhaka

Dhaka, March 11: Two motorcyclists were killed and two others, including a university student, were injured in separate road accidents at Shah Ali and Banani police stations in Mirpur today.

The deceased have been identified as Samanta Akhter alias Jyoti, 20, and Kazi Aminul Haque, 25. The injured are Niloy, a student of the same institute and Sumon Mia, 35, a motorcyclist. They have been admitted to DMC Hospital.

Samanta was the daughter of Nurul Alam of Gopalpur village under Kashiani upazila of Gopalganj. Kazi Aminul is the son of Kazi Alimul Haque of Mohakhali School Road.

Samanta was a fourth-semester student at the University of Information Technology and Sciences (UITS) in Mirpur-2.

The separate accidents took place in front of the Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons (BCPS) of Maradasa Banani Police Station under Shah Ali Police Station in Mirpur around midnight on Thursday.

Dhaka Medical College (DMC) Hospital Police Camp In-Charge (OC) Mohammad Bachchu Mia said the accident took place in front of Maradasa of Shah Ali Police Station in Mirpur around 1.30pm on Thursday. After rescuing him in critical condition, he was taken to Dhaka Medical College (DMC) Hospital where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.

According to police quoting Samanta's friend Niloy, the accident took place at around 1.30pm on Thursday when a friend Niloy was riding his motorbike to reach his Mirpur home when he collided with a truck coming from the opposite direction. The truck fled.

On the other hand, Banani Thana Police Station (Sub-Inspector) Saiful Alam said that a motorcycle lost control in front of Banani Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons (BCPS) at around 1:30 am on Friday. The injured were identified as Kazi Aminul Haque, 25, and Sumon Mia, 35. After rushing them to Dhaka Medical College (DMC) Hospital, the doctor declared Aminul Haque dead.
