Dhaka, December 12: A writ has been filed in the High Court seeking directions to include the national slogan 'Joy Bangla' along with 'Joy Bangabandhu' in the gazette. The writ petition is on the agenda for hearing in the High Court bench of Justice KM Kamrul Quader and Justice Mohammad Ali on Sunday (December 11). Advocate Abdullah Al Harun Bhuiyan Russell along with 13 Supreme Court lawyers filed this writ.

The Cabinet Secretary, Law Secretary and the concerned parties have been made defendants in the writ.

Lawyer Abdullah Al Harun Bhuiyan Russell said, "Whenever Joy Bangla was uttered during the liberation war in 1971, Joy Bangabandhu was uttered at the same time. This slogan was encouraging for freedom. Joy Bangla and Joy Bangabandhu are one slogan; not separate slogans. In a judgment of the High Court, Joy Bangla has been declared as the national slogan. It must now be included in our constitution."

In March this year, the government issued a notification making Joy Bangla the national slogan. It said, "Joy Bangla will be the national slogan of Bangladesh. Constitutional office bearers, officers and employees of government, autonomous and statutory bodies working in the country and outside the country will chant the Joy Bangla slogan at the end of their speeches at all national day celebrations and other state and government events."
