Dhaka, May 20: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said that BNP founder Ziaur Rahman made Hizbul Bahar ship, which was brought to send Hajj pilgrims from Bangladesh at low cost, a luxurious boat.

She also said that immediately after independence, Bangabandhu requested the King of Saudi so that the people of our country can go for Hajj. The King of Saudi also arranged that. Bangabandhu arranged for Hajj at a low cost. After 1975, Ziaur Rahman came to power and turned that ship into a luxury boat. Hajj did not take place then. It was sad.

The Prime Minister said these things at the inauguration of 'Hajj Activities-2023' and exchanging greetings with Hajj pilgrims at the Hajj office in Ashkona of the capital on Friday.

The father of the nation established good relations with Arab countries including the Muslim world. In the 1973 Arab-Israeli war, Bangabandhu expressed support for the Arab world and sent aid. With his diplomatic foresight, Bangladesh became a member of the OIC in 1974. Father of the Nation established Islamic Foundation and Madrasa Board. He developed, expanded and beautified the National Mosque Baitul Mukarram. Donated land to Kakrail Mosque for Tabligh Jamaat. Tongir allocated a place for Viswa Ijtema on the banks of Turag river. He introduced recitation of the Quran at the beginning and end of radio and television programs. He was the first to legislate liquor; Stopped horse racing and gambling.
