Dhaka, March 30: Foreign Minister and Awami League Joint General Secretary Hasan Mahmud said that Ziaur Rahman worked as a spy and friend of Pakistan under the guise of a freedom fighter. As this truth has been revealed, BNP has become upset.

He said this while speaking at the chief guest's speech at a discussion on 'Greater of Independence Bangabandhu' organized by the Bangabandhu Cultural Association on the occasion of the Great Independence Day at the National Press Club on Topkhana Road in the capital on Friday afternoon.

Awami League General Secretary Chittaranjan Das presided over the meeting as a special guest, advocate Balram Poddar, member of the National Committee of Awami League.

The foreign minister said, "During the liberation war, even if someone knew that someone had participated in the liberation war or helped the freedom fighters in any way, even if they had eaten a meal or had a glass of water, those families would have been subjected to unspeakable torture by the Pakistani army. And Ziaur Rahman lives in the war field and his family with Begum Khaleda Zia's two children lives in the comfort of the Pakistanis in the cantonment - from this it is clear that Ziaur Rahman has worked as a friend and spy of Pakistan. It needs no further explanation. And the Brigadier General of Pakistan wrote a letter to Ziaur Rahman saying, 'We are satisfied with your work, don't worry about the safety of your family. I have a copy of that letter too."

Hashan Mahmud said, "Today BNP lies - where were the Awami League leaders then, while the first government of independent Bangladesh was the Awami League government, whose president was Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Vice President Syed Nazrul Islam who served as interim president in Bangabandhu's absence, Prime Minister Tajuddin Ahmed. - Under this government, Ziaur Rahman worked as a sector commander in the liberation war with a monthly salary of 400 taka. Although he never went to any front."
