Khaleda is unlike her late husband
By Srijato: For the former Prime Minister of Bangladesh Khaleda Zia, Islamists forces led by Jamaat-e-Islami have been her closest allies and friends. So it was not surprising when Khaleda recently lent support to the \'resistance\' put up by the Jamaat-e-Islami against war crime trial. Khaleda even warned the government that the BNP would not tolerate any attack on ‘religion’ or ‘liberty’. She pronounced, “Islam does not contradict independence. But a vested quarter is defaming Islam, Allah and Hazrat Muhammad in the name of implementing the spirit of Liberation War of 1971.” Jamaat which opposed Bangladesh’s birth has once again plunged the country into a spasm of violence as it let loose a fresh wave of deadly clashes in recent months.

Genocide, Shahbag movement and ‘Joy Bangla’
On February 28 Jamaat-e-Islami (JEI) and its student front Islami Chhatra Shibir (ICS) unleashed a country wide terror and violence, and clashed with the police and other security forces after senior JEI leader Delawar Hossen Sayeedi received death sentence for war crimes committed by him during the liberation war. The ensuing violence claimed 33 lives, mostly JEI/ICS cadres In Bangladesh certain sections of armed forces, some mercenary elements and sections of pro-Pakistan political entities have often come together to subvert institutions of democracy and hijack State power for their selfish gain. These groups have always found religion as a convenient tool and hence they advocate a strong Islamic nationalist identity for the country and paint India in a negative light to generate a sense of psychological insecurity among the masses.

LeT- supplied grenades used to kill Kibria
The militant organization Harkat-ul-Jihad-al-Islami (HUJI) used a grenade to kill senior Awami League (AL) leader and former Finance Minister SAMS Kibria on January 27, 2004 from a cache it was supposed to transport to India for Lashkar- e-Taiba (LeT). The LeT high-ups in Pakistan had sent the cache to Bangladesh for onward transmission to their men in Kashmir through Satkhira border. But the HUJI failed to follow the instructions, thanks to the Border Security Force’s interception of the previous consignment. The cache of 32 grenades, which the HUJI received in Chittagong, rested in Bangladesh before those were used in different major attacks.
Seditious Jamaat Shibir
Loudspeakers are being used from mosques urging people to assemble with lathis and bricks. Attacks are being carried out on selected houses and establishments with specific purposes of damaging properties. Police officials, when they arrive for maintaining law and order, are being targeted for attack by Jamaat workers and their alliance partner BNP. In broad daylight a police officer’s head was thrashed with bricks by them. Police, RAB, BGB and other security forces are increasingly being made target of brutality by Jamaat Shibir cadres and their alliance partners. They also set a power transmission center on fire and destroyed it. Anarchy, bloodshed and chaos which have become a regular phenomenon are tantamount to sedition.

Revised policies of Hefazat
After Maulana Bhasani’s historical Long March, the Hefazat-e-Islam leaders recently organized the second Long March in Bangladesh. Hefazat-e-Islam was formed on January 19, 2010 as a non-political organization to educate the Muslims about Islam’s Iman, Aqeeda, tenets and ideals. The objective of this organization is to consolidate Islam in the society, promote Islamic values and counter all anti-Islam and anti-Muslim conspiracies, both within the country and abroad. Allama Shah Ahmad Shafi, esteemed Alem and Islamic scholar who is also Chairman of Qaumi Madrassa Board and Director of the famous Hathazari Madrassa, is the head of this organization.
হেফাজতে-ইসলামির লং মার্চের পিছনে কারা ?

Hepazat-e-Islam’s long march in Bangladesh
Bangladesh is in turmoil with Qaumi Madrassa based radical organization Hepazat-e-Islam planning to seize the country with its plan for a Chittagong- Dhaka ‘long march’ on April 6 demanding,among other things, punishment to ‘atheist bloggers’ for defaming Islam. The situation has taken a serious turn as in a counter move 27 pro-liberation organizations including Sammilito Sangskritik Jote, Ekattorer Ghatak Dalal Nirmul Committee and Ganojagoron Mancha called a hartal on the same day. Hepazat-e-Islam replied with a threat to launch non- stop strike from the next day if its opponents’ hartal coinciding with its ‘long march’ is not called off. Such confrontational programmes have created grave concern and agony and the people have become apprehensive of more blood shed and chaos in the country. The BNP led 18 party alliance of which Jamaat-e-Islami (JEI) is a constituent has also declared support for the Hepazat-e-Islam’s ‘long march’ programme.
