"How can I speak in front of so many people": Porimoni about molestation case

Entertainment Report, Dhaka, 24 July 2023: Actress Porimoni testified against businessman Nasir Uddin Mahmood and Tuhin Siddiqui Omi in the molestation case. On Monday, she appeared in the court of Judge Shahina Haque Siddika of Women and Child Torture Prevention Tribunal-9 and testified.

"How am I going to talk about this in front of so many people," an emotional Porimoni said in response to questions from lawyers at one stage of her testimony.

At the time, the judge said, "If you have a problem to say in the open court, apply for an in camera trial."

After that Porimoni's lawyer Nilanjana Surabhi Rifat applied for camera trial. The court allowed the application and fixed September 13 as the date for the next hearing. This case will be tried in camera trial on this day.

Porimoni's lawyer said, "The case is sensitive. There are many things that cannot be said in front of everyone. While Porimoni was testifying, the lawyers kept asking questions at various times. At the time, Porimoni said in a tearful voice, 'How can I speak in front of so many people.' Then when we applied for an in-camera trial according to the judge's instructions, the judge granted it."

Testimony, depositions and cross-examination in camera are called in camera trials. That is, at that time only lawyers of both sides, accused, victim are present.

Earlier on the morning of November 29, 2022, Porimoni appeared in the court along with her husband Razz. Accused Omi and Shahidul appeared at that time. However, Nasir Uddin applied for time due to illness. Porimoni's testimony began in the presence of the two accused. The court then recorded Porimoni's partial statement.

On June 14, 2021, Porimoni filed a case in Savar police station, mentioning the names of Nasir Uddin Mahmud and his friend Omi and making four unknown accused in the case of rape and attempted murder.

After the investigation, on September 6 of that year, the investigating officer Kamal Hossain submitted the charge sheet against three people including Nasir in the court. Then on December 13 of the same year, Judge Hemayet Uddin of Dhaka Women and Child Torture Prevention Tribunal-9 accepted the complaint.
