BFAA election: Appellate Division directs High Court to settle Nipun-Zayed's matter

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, February 14: The Appellate Division has upheld the order of the Chamber Court by dismissing the order of the High Court regarding the post of General Secretary of the Film Artists' Association. At the same time, the status quo has been maintained in the post of General Secretary. Besides, the court has directed the High Court to settle the matter.

A six-judge full Appellate bench headed by Chief Justice Hasan Foez Siddique passed the order on Monday (February 14) morning.

Barrister Rokon Uddin Mahmud and Barrister Mostafizur Rahman Khan appeared for Nipun in the court. Zaid Khan was represented by Advocate Yusuf Hossain Humayun, Advocate Ahsanul Karim and Advocate Nahid Sultana Yuthi.

Earlier on Sunday, Nipun Akter's leave to appeal against the High Court's order suspending the decision to cancel Zayed Khan's candidature in the Film Artists' Association election was set for today. On February 9, the Appellate Division Chamber Court had stayed the High Court's order suspending the decision to cancel Zayed Khan's candidature in the Film Artists Association elections. At the same time, the court issued a stay on the post of general secretary of the Film Artists Association. The matter was referred to the full bench of the Appellate Division for hearing.

On February 8, Nipun appealed to the Appellate Division against the High Court's order suspending the decision to cancel Zayed Khan's candidature.

The High Court has quashed the decision of the Appellate Board to select Zayed Khan's candidature. At the same time, the court issued a rule asking why the decision to cancel the candidature would not be invalid. The rule hearing date has been fixed for February 15. A High Court bench of Justice Mamnoon Rahman and Justice Khandaker Diliruzzaman passed the order.

According to the preliminary results of the 2022-24 term's election of the Bangladesh Film Artists Association, the candidature of Zayed Khan, who had won the post of General Secretary, was rejected and Nipun was declared the winner. Sohanur Rahman Sohan, chairman of the Election Appeal Board, made the announcement after a meeting on the evening of February 5. The election of the Film Artists Association was held on January 28.
