Dhaka, December 23: The curtain came down on the 28th Kolkata International Film Festival, which began on December 15, with the announcement of awards. Where as the best movie award, the 'Golden Royal Bengal Tiger' award was won by the Bangladeshi movie 'Kura Pokkhir Shunye Ura'. The news was released on the official website of the Kolkata International Film Festival. However, Spain's film 'Upon Entry' won the festival's best award jointly with the Bangladeshi film directed by Muhammad Quayum.

Minister Arup Biswas presented the award trophy and certificate to Quayum. The director himself shared the news on social media. At the same time, he shared the picture of the award-winning crest on Facebook. The creator wrote in the caption, jointly the best film! I dedicate this award to my dear friend, late Gazi Mahtab Hasan and to all artists and performers.

A total of 14 films were in competition this year in the 'International Competition: Innovation in Moving Image' category of Kolkata International Film Festival. Among these, the only film in Bangladesh was 'Kura Pokkhir Shunye Ura' directed by Muhammad Qayyum.

A total of five judges were in charge of judging the films of this category. In addition to Iliana Zakopoulou, who worked as a chairperson for the production and commercialization of the film, there were Mano Khalil, Shalini Dore, Tannishta Chatterjee and the renowned Bangladeshi director Tanveer Mokammel.

The story of the movie 'Kura Pokkhir Shunye Ura' revolves around the life struggle of a rice cutting farmer family of Haor. About the struggle for livelihood of the poor farmers of Haor. Natural calamities accompany the desperate battle for survival. Jayita Mahalanbish, Ujjwal Kabir, Sumi Islam, Samia Akhtar, Badal Shaheed, Mahmud Alam etc. acted in various roles in the movie. The movie was released in Bangladesh on November 4.
