Lalon Festival Lalon Festival taking place along the banks of Kali river
Dhaka, March 16: Fakir Lalon Shah's songs are sung in Kushtia's Chheuria's Akhrabari. On the occasion of Lalon commemoration, the courtyard of Lalon Shah's mausoleum, the ground, the river Kali is sitting on the bank of the devotees-followers from far and wide singing songs. Apart from singing day and night, they are discussing Lalon Fakir's words with each other. Many are taking initiation like Lalon again.
The three-day Lalon Memorial Festival organized by Lalon Academy in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture and Kushtia District Administration started on Tuesday (March 15). Thousands of Baul fans have come to Lalon Akhrabari for this festival. The theme of this year's Lalon Mela is Fakir Lalon Shah's Immortal Saying 'Manush Bhojle Sonar Manush Hobi'
Fans and followers have come from far and wide to the Akhrabari of Chhenuria on the occasion of Lalon commemoration. They are singing Lalon Fakir's songs in groups. They are discussing with each other about Lalon's words and ideals. The whole fair is full of Lalon's songs. They have temporarily built a dormitory on the grounds of Lalon Fakir's shrine, on the banks of the river Kali. Grameen Mela is held in the field on the bank of Kali river in remembrance of Lalon. The traders have also set up various posaras in the surrounding areas.
According to Lalon fans and followers, during the lifetime of Lalon Shah, Dol Purnima festival was celebrated on the night of full moon in the first week of Chaitra month. Since then, Lalon devotees have been celebrating their desired festival through various events every year. A three-day program was held in Akhrabari around the day in memory of Sanji. Lalon Fakir's songs are now sung all over the area.
The visitors who came to Lalon Mela said, it feels very good to come to Lalon Mela. It is very nice to see the dormitories of Lalon fans and followers. Many people are gathering to listen to their songs.
It is to be noted that Fakir Lalon Shah used to sit with his disciples on the night of Dol Purnima in his lifetime. In its continuation, even after so many years of Sanji's death, this festival is being celebrated every year on the banks of Kali river.
