Legendary actor Aly Zaker dies

Dhaka, November 27: Legendary actor Aly Zaker died on Friday. He was 76 years old.

Zaker was undergoing treatment for Covid-19 at United Hospital when he passed away at 6:45am on Friday, reports said.

On November 17, he was admitted to Bangladesh Specialized Hospital over cardiac ailments.

Zaker had been suffering from cancer for nearly four years.

Born on November 6, 1944, Zaker was the third among four siblings.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina condoled the death.

Hasina said that the Zaker's contribution in the Liberation War, Bangladesh's arts and cultural arena will never be forgotten.

The Prime Minister also prayed for Zaker's departed soul and expressed sympathy to the bereaved family.

Zaker is an Ekushey Padak recipient and an eminent cultural personality.

He had also won the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy Award, Bangabandhu Award, Munier Chowdhury Award, Naren Biswas Award, among others.

The deceased was one of the trustees in the Liberation War museum in Dhaka and served as the chairman of Asiatic 3Sixty.

He is survived by wife and actor Sara Zaker, son Iresh Zaker and daughter Sriya Sharbojoya.
