Pori Moni Remand Pori Moni's remand: High Court seeks explanation from judges again
Dhaka, September 29: The High Court has directed judges Debabrata Biswas and Atiqul Islam to give a written explanation in the case of remanding actress Pori Moni multiple times. It has asked them to submit an explanation in this regard by October 24. The High Court bench of Justice Mostafa Zaman Islam and Justice KM Zahid Sarwar Kajal made the remarks on Wednesday (September 29).
Attorney Generals AM Amin Uddin and Abdul Alim Mia Jewel appeared for the judges. The attorney general told the court that the judges could not give a proper explanation that day because they were in training. The court later ordered them to re-explain.
Earlier on September 14, the High Court expressed displeasure over the explanation submitted by two lower court judges who sent actress Pori Moni on second and third remand. The court said they had taught the High Court a lesson with their written explanation.
"We are not satisfied with this explanation," the court remarked.
The court also commented that the High Court has been undermined in the interpretation of the judges. On the same day, two judges Debabrata Biswas and Atiqul Islam, who had sent Pori Moni on second and third remand, also apologised to the court.
The High Court has sought an explanation from the concerned judges on the incident of remanding the actress in stages on September 2. The High Court summoned the investigating officer in Pori Moni's case. Besides, all the documents of the drug case filed against her at Banani police station and the case docket were also summoned.
A High Court bench of Justice Mostafa Zaman Islam and Justice KM Zahid Sarwar Kajal passed the order on the same day. Lawyers Z I Khan Panna and Syeda Nasrin appeared for the petition.
