Parliament passes Finance Bill-2023

Dhaka, June 26: Finance Bill-2023 has been passed in fixed form with some amendments on Sunday, abolishing the provision of mandatory income tax return of Tk 2,000 for every TIN holder. Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal proposed the passage of the bill in Parliament. This bill was brought to implement the financial proposals of the government and to amend some laws.

One and a half crore bribe transaction: ACC Director General's PA arrested

Dhaka, June 24: Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Director General (Money Laundering) PA Gautam Bhattacharya and a sacked police constable were arrested while accepting a bribe of Tk 1.5 crore. Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Police (DB) arrested four persons including these two from a hotel in Motijheel on Friday.

Bangladesh’s central bank takes some critical decisions

Dhaka, June 24: Bangladesh’s central bank took some critical decisions at its latest monetary policy meeting on June 18. It had decided to replace the prevailing regime of administered or artificial foreign exchange rates with a unified market-determined rate by the end of the 2023-24 (July-June) fiscal year. Also, the three-year-old deposit floor rate is removed. Banks can now offer interests of their choice to the depositor. The cap on the lending rate is allowed to move up to three percentage points from the prevailing 12%.

The cost of Padma Bridge is increasing by another Tk 1118 crore

Dhaka, June 22: The government has decided to increase the cost of the Padma Multipurpose Bridge by Tk 1,117 crore 97 lakh 90 thousand 580 after one year of its inauguration and traffic. The Cabinet Committee on Public Procurement has approved this increase in expenditure. The meeting of the committee was held on Thursday, June 22 under the chairmanship of Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal.

Daily remittances before Eid-ul-Azha are Tk 694 crore

Dhaka, June 19: Ahead of the holy Eid-ul-Azha, the pace of expatriate income (remittance) has increased. About 6.40 crore USD or 694 crore taka (about 108 taka 50 paise per dollar) is coming to the country every day in this month of June. If the trend of remittances continues, it will reach close to two billion (over $191 crore) by the end of the month.
