Dhaka, May 28: A Mango Special train has left for Dhaka carrying 7,268 kilograms of mangoes from Rajshahi and Chapainawabganj. Earlier on Thursday (May 27), Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina officially inaugurated the 'Mango Special Train' via video conference from Ganobhaban at noon.

This train will take mangoes and other fruits and raw materials and vegetables to Dhaka every day from the northern border district of Chapainawabganj at a nominal fare. The inaugural ceremony of this train was also organised at Chapainawabganj.

The train arrived at Rajshahi railway station at 5:20 pm with mangoes from farmers and traders from Chapainawabganj. Then more mangoes were loaded there. Later at 5:50 pm the train left Rajshahi for Dhaka.

Rajshahi Railway Station Manager Abdul Karim said the 'Mango Special Train' left for Dhaka with 7,268 kilograms of mangoes.

The train took 6,343 kilograms of mangoes from Rajshahi. Of this, 2,419 kilograms of mangoes were picked up from Rajshahi station, while 1,311 kilograms were collected from Sarada station at Charghat. And in Arani station of Bagha upazila of Rajshahi 2,613 kilograms of mangoes were loaded.

In a few days, there will be a lot of mangoes in the market. Rajshahi Railway Station Manager Abdul Karim also expressed hope that this amount of mango transport will increase as long as it lasts.

Meanwhile, for the second time, five wagons (freight trains) of the Western Railway launched a 'Mango Special Train' from Chapainawabganj to Dhaka via Rajshahi Railway Station.

Farmers and traders can send the mangoes to the capital Dhaka from Rajshahi for only Tk 1.17. Each wagon has a capacity of 43 metric tons. However, only 30 metric tons of mangoes will be transported so that raw or semi-ripe mangoes are not spoiled by excessive heat and pressure.
