In order to keep the price of potatoes normal in the country's market, the import of potatoes from India has started through Hili land port of Hakimpur upazila of Dinajpur.

The import process started on Saturday around 3 pm with the entry of a truck carrying 25 metric tons of potatoes. 100 metric tons of potatoes have been imported in four trucks till 6 pm.

Babu, the owner of potato importer M/s Mukt Enterprises, said that the import of potatoes has started. 100 metric tons of potatoes were imported from India at $150 per ton in four trucks.

Hili Panama Port Link Limited Public Relations Officer Soharb Hossain Pratab Mallick said, after one and a half months of closure, the import of potatoes at this port has started today.

100 metric tons of potatoes were imported in four trucks. Since potato is a perishable product, clearance will be issued after completing all customs procedures quickly.

Meanwhile, after visiting the vegetable market of Hili in the afternoon, it was seen that potatoes are being sold at 25 to 30 taka per kg with a decrease of 8 to 10 taka per kg compared to yesterday due to the news of Indian potato import. Abed Ali Sarkar, who came to Hili market to buy potatoes, said that he has been buying potatoes at the rate of Tk 35 to Tk 40 per kg for the past few days. Today I bought two kg of potatoes at the price of 25 taka per kg.

Raw material seller Abdul Khalek said that the potato market has decreased since the last two days. Due to the increase in domestic potato import in the market and the start of potato import from India, the price of potato has decreased by Tk 8 to Tk 10 per kg.
