5 metric tons of vegetables went to India through Akhaura port

Dhaka, February 9: After long efforts of businessmen, export of vegetables to India has finally started through Akhaura land port in Brahmanbaria. Five metric tons of vegetables were exported to India in the third phase on Wednesday. On this afternoon, a truck loaded with various vegetables entered Agartala through the land port. Port traders and port authorities consider vegetables as a potential export product.

According to land port sources, vegetable export to India started for the first time from the first week of January this year. After that, a total of 15 metric tons of vegetables have been exported in three phases till Wednesday. Vegetables are exported at USD 400 per tonne. Vegetables exported include lettuce, carrot, onion leaves and usta.

Akhaura land port businessman Md. Nasir Uddin exported the vegetables. He said that he will export a total of 20 metric tons of vegetables to Agartala. We have been in regular contact with traders of Agartala for exporting vegetables for a long time. In view of this, 20 tons of vegetables are being exported on an experimental basis. It is expected that vegetables will be exported regularly like other products.

Akhaura land port superintendent Md. Samaul Islam said, vegetables have been added to the list of export products. This is positive for traders and port authorities. Regular exports will increase the revenue of the port authority and the government will also earn foreign exchange.
