The government will provide financial assistance to fish farmers from an ongoing project with the help of the World Bank to overcome the damage caused by the epidemic coronavirus. In six categories, the affected farmers will get 12 to 18 thousand rupees.

The incentive money may be sent to farmers' mobiles next month, said the director general of the fisheries department. However, this money is not part of the incentive package announced by the government.

According to sources, the Fisheries Department's 'Sustainable Coastal and Marine Fisheries Project' is providing assistance to 6,000 farmers in their project area. The project area includes farmers from 16 coastal districts. The project is spending 100 crore rupees for this.

Mahbubul Haque, director of the project, said that the information of the affected farmers in the project area has been verified and finalized. This money will be delivered to the farmers through digital quickly.

According to project sources, the Department of Fisheries undertook the 'Sustainable Coastal and Marine Fisheries Project' in 2016 with the assistance of the World Bank to assess, conserve, properly manage, sustainable extraction and improve the living standards of coastal marine fishermen. The project will continue till 2023. The World Bank has provided ৮৭ 17.83 million for this project.

The project covers 650 unions in 65 upazilas of 16 districts. The districts are Khulna, Bagerhat, Satkhira, Jessore, Gopalganj, Chittagong, Cox's Bazar, Noakhali, Feni, Laxmipur, Barisal, Jhalokati, Barguna, Pirojpur, Patuakhali and Bhola. These district and upazila fisheries offices have prepared the list of victims in secret. At the end of the final verification and selection, 6 thousand people have been nominated. The cash can go to their mobile banking account.

The six categories of assistance being provided to the victims are: Small Fisherman, Small Sparrow Farmer, Medium Fish Farmer, Medium Sparrow Farmer, Cucumber Farmer and Crab Farmer.

Director General of the Fisheries Department, Kazi Shams Afroz, said all efforts have been made to deliver the incentive money to the victims. Now the process of contracting with the operators for sending money through mobile banking is underway. Hopefully the victims will get financial help next month.
