71% of Japanese companies want to expand business in Bangladesh

Dhaka, February 18: About 71.6 percent of Japanese companies doing business in Bangladesh want to expand their business.

According to a press release on Friday, this information was given in a webinar titled 'Investment opportunities in high-tech parks in Bangladesh'.

UNIDO ITPO Tokyo and Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Authority (BHTPA) organized the Bangladesh Embassy in Japan webinar. More than 100 Japanese companies participated in the webinar. The webinar highlighted the investment opportunities in hi-tech parks established in different regions of Bangladesh.

State Minister for Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Zunaid Ahmed Palak attended the event as the chief guest.

He said Japan could be a very good market for the local IT and ITES industry in the coming years.

The state minister said that Bangladesh has great potential in the field of hardware production. Nationwide infrastructure is being built to manufacture heavy machinery as well as technology products. Bangladesh is becoming an attractive destination for international companies interested in establishing or outsourcing industries in the region as it offers cost-effective access to technology and services.

He said Bangladesh has a young and educated population who are eager to adopt and use technology. As a result ICT is creating a large potential market for services and products.

The State Minister urged Japanese IT entrepreneurs to invest more in Bangladesh, taking advantage of our competitive capabilities and policy incentives.

Bangladesh Ambassador to Japan Shahabuddin Ahmed said that Japan is a very promising country for Bangladesh in terms of trade, business, investment and skilled human resources.

He said, 'Bangladesh Embassy in Japan will provide all possible assistance to Japanese investors to start and expand business in Bangladesh.'

Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Authority (BHTPA) Managing Director Khandaker Azizul Islam presented the keynote speech titled 'Investment opportunities in Hi-Tech Park'. He mentioned that, BHTPA is committed to provide necessary services to investors in hi-tech parks through its one-stop service, various incentives such as tax and duty exemption facilities.

Masaki Horikawa, CEO of BJIT International, a Japanese investment company, presented his business experience in Bangladesh at the Bangabandhu Hi-Tech Park.
