Dhaka, September 29: Bangladesh Bank has instructed to avoid writing, sealing or stapling on new and old currency notes. The central bank's Department of Currency Management has issued a circular in this regard on Tuesday (September 28).

The directive sent to the chief executives of all scheduled banks in the country states that there is a provision to affix a label or flyleaf with the name, seal, signature and date of the bank account holder after packet banding after confirming the number of notes in each packet. The number and date are being written directly on the money in violation, branch seal, signature and sub-signature, stapling etc. are being done. As a result, the notes have become obsolete in a relatively short period of time and consumers are also suffering. Above all, state money is being wasted. Such activities are one of the obstacles in the implementation of the clean note policy of Bangladesh Bank.

In this case, Bangladesh Bank has also mentioned some deviations or irregularities.

These are: having less than the correct number of notes in the enumerated packet, having less denomination notes in the packet of high denomination notes, perfect pairing of two claim notes of different denominations of high value, i.e. making build up notes and keeping counterfeit notes in recyclable notes.

The circular further said that writing, signature, seal and stapling on the packet of notes (excluding notes worth Tk.1000) should be avoided during counting.

After confirming the number of notes in the packet, after packing the packet, it is necessary to ensure strict adherence to the label / flyleaf with the name, seal, signature and date of the bank account concerned.
