Bangladesh: Exports increased to 485 million dollars in May

Dhaka, June 5, 2023 : Although there was a negative impact in the last March and April, the country's export earnings have turned around in the recently concluded May. A total of 485 million dollars worth of goods were exported in May. 

On Sunday (June 4), the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) released the updated data on export earnings.

Although this export income is 5.29 percent less than the target.

The export revenue target for May was $5.12 billion. And in May 2022, the export income was 3.83 billion dollars. Due to the dollar crisis, there was a negative growth of 2.49 percent in exports in March, similarly, a negative growth of 16.52 percent in the next month of April.

In the first 11 months (July-May) of the current fiscal year 2022-23, goods worth 5,520 million dollars have been exported. This export is 7.11 percent higher than the same period of last financial year. In the first 11 months of the last financial year, the exports were worth 4 thousand 717 million dollars.

According to EPB data, exports of leather and leather products, non-leather footwear and plastic products have so far increased in the current fiscal year, along with ready-made garments. On the other hand, exports of jute and jute products, home textiles, frozen food, agro-processed food and engineering products have declined.

In the first 11 months of the current financial year, exports of ready-made garments were worth 4,263 million dollars. This income is 10.67 percent more than the same period of last financial year. On the other hand, leather and leather products have the second highest position in exports. Where products worth 112 million dollars have been exported. In this case, the growth is 42 percent. On the other hand, the third highest export of home textile products worth 102 million dollars. The export of this sector has decreased by 30 percent.
