Dhaka, January 21: World Bank Managing Director (Operations) Axel van Trotsenburg is coming to Dhaka on his first visit to Bangladesh on Saturday.

On his three-day visit, Axel van Trotsenburg will attend an event tomorrow, January 22, to mark 50 years of partnership between Bangladesh and the World Bank Group and the country's significant development achievements.

This was announced in a press release of the World Bank on Friday.

World Bank MD Operations Axel van Trotsenburg said, "Bangladesh has shown the world what can be done to successfully reduce poverty through successful innovation in human development, women's empowerment, and climate adaptation."

He said, "The World Bank is proud of its 50-year partnership with Bangladesh and to be a part of the country's remarkable development journey. I am looking forward to witnessing these achievements firsthand during this visit.”

During the visit, Axel van Trotsenburg will meet the Prime Minister, Finance Minister, and other senior government officials, civil society representatives, and development partners and he will also visit World Bank-supported projects. He will be accompanied by Martin Raiser, World Bank Vice President for the South Asia Region.
