Bangladesh's per capita income increases to USD 2,591

Dhaka, February 8: In the fiscal year 2020-21, the per capita income in the country has increased to 2,591 US dollars. In the last financial year (2020-21), the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) for the first nine months was USD 2,554 (which is Tk 2,16,589). At the end of the fiscal year 2020-21, the final per capita income has increased to USD 2,591, which is Tk 2,19,738.

The Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) has come up with the final information. The BBS information was presented to the Prime Minister at a meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) on Tuesday (February 8).

In a briefing after the meeting, Planning Minister MA Mannan said, "This is our figure, anyone can do research on it. Per capita income has increased because we have done well overall."

The Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) annually estimates and publishes some important macroeconomic indicators, including gross domestic product (GDP) and economic growth rate. At this stage, the final GDP of the fiscal year 2020 has been published on the basis of the final data.

According to the final estimates, the GDP growth rate in the fiscal year 2020-21 stood at 6.94 percent, which was 5.43 percent temporarily. The final per capita income for the fiscal year 2020-21 is 2 lakh 19 thousand 738 taka or 2,591 US dollars.

Regarding the increase in per capita income, State Minister for Planning Dr. Shamsul Alam said that exports have increased. "In addition, remittances increased by USD 25 billion. Due to these reasons, the size of the economy has increased. The economy has turned around. Omicron's time is not far behind. Our export earnings have increased. Individual investment has increased by 14 percent. Our revenue has increased by 14 percent. Due to these reasons, the total GDP has increased. Our per capita income has also increased due to the increase in GDP growth."
