Bangladesh's per capita income is now $2793, growth is 7.10%

Dhaka, February 6: The per capita income of the people of Bangladesh has increased to 2,793 US dollars as of the end of the fiscal year 2021-22. Meanwhile, in the fiscal year 2021-22, GDP (GDP) growth has been 7.10 percent.

Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) released the final figures on Sunday (February 5). However, although the per capita income has increased, it has not increased as expected by the government. This income was two 2,824 dollars as a temporary measure. As a result, every dollar is equal to Tk 107, the income of every Bangladeshi person is now Tk 2 lakh 98 thousand 851.

Bangladesh's economy has been growing rapidly since the independence in 1971. In the financial year 1972-73, the annual per capita income of the country was Tk 676. As such, one's daily income was Tk 1.85. Per capita income has increased as a result of economic growth.

Per capita income has consistently increased as GDP growth has always been positive. At the beginning of the independent country, the per capita income was Tk 676, after only two years (1995-96), the per capita income increased to Tk 11,152. Then in 1998-99, the per capita income increased to Tk 14,143. In one step in 2000-01, the per capita income increased to Tk 23,091. Then in 2005-06 fiscal year, Tk 36,448, in 2010-11 fiscal year, Tk 66,044 per capita income.

The per capita income in fiscal year 2015-16 crossed 1 lakh. At this time the per capita income stood at Tk 1 lakh 14 thousand 621. In the fiscal year 2018-19, the per capita income stood at Tk 1 lakh 60 thousand 440.

On the other hand, the gross domestic product (GDP) growth in the fiscal year 2021-22 has been 7.10 percent, although not according to the provisional estimate. In the financial year 2020-21 which was 6.94 percent.

Due to the corona crisis, the country's growth in the financial year 2019-20 was only 3.45 percent. Besides, the growth in the financial year 2018-19 was 7.88 percent. Per capita income is calculated by combining agriculture, service and industry sectors. However, provisional GDP growth was estimated at 7.25 percent in six months.

The provisional accounts were released on May 10 last year. The financial year 2021-22 ended on June 30, 2022. After the passage of more than seven months, the Bureau of Statistics released the final calculation of GDP growth, per capita income and other indicators of the economy for that fiscal year on Sunday.
