Bangladesh to buy 11 million liters of soybean oil from US

Dhaka, May 26: The government will buy 18 million litres of soybean oil for the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB). Of this, 7 million liters of soybean oil will be purchased from domestic companies and 11 million liters from the United States. A total of eight procurement proposals were approved at a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Public Procurement on Wednesday. Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal presided over the meeting while Additional Secretary to the Cabinet Division Sayeed Mahbub Khan briefed reporters virtually.

He said in view of the proposal of the Ministry of Commerce, approval has been given to buy 11 million liters of soybean oil from Exemplar Technology In Corporation (local agent OMG Limited) in the international open tender system. It will cost Tk 129.58 crore. The price of soybean oil will be Tk 140 per liter. Another proposal allows the purchase of 7 million liters of soybean oil through a locally open tender system. It will cost Tk 127.85 crore. The price of each liter is Rs 182.65. The soybean oil will be purchased from City Edible Oil Company. 

In the meeting, Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) under the Ministry of Agriculture signed a state-level agreement. Approval has been given for purchase of tons of TSP fertilizer at Tk 120 crore 3 lakh 79 thousand. In a separate proposal, 50,000 mw from the Canadian company under a state-level contract by BADC. Approval has been given for purchase of tonnes of murate-of-potash (MOP) fertilizer at Tk 226.68 crore.

Among the other proposals approved in the meeting, a proposal to increase the additional cost of Tk 12.86 crore for the extension of the tenure of a consultant of a Dhaka WASA project has been approved. The Water Development Board (WDB) has approved a proposal to increase the additional cost of Tk 9.55 crore for the variation of the consultancy firm engaged in the South-Western Integrated Water Resources Planning and Management-(Phase II) project.

In the meeting, the Bangladesh Economic Zone Authority (BEZA) approved the appointment of a consultancy firm for Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Industrial City Development Project at Tk 53.53 crore. In two separate proposals, BEZA has approved the purchase of road and drainage network construction work in Mirsarai Economic Zone area.
