Bangladesh to buy 50,000 tons of rice from India

Dhaka, December 9: The Cabinet Committee on Public Procurement has approved the procurement of 50,000 metric tonnes of non-basmati rice from Mumbai, India for the fiscal year 2020-21 through international tenders.

The proposal was approved at the 35th meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Public Procurement, chaired by Law Minister Anisul Haque, in the absence of Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal on Wednesday (December 9th).

After the meeting, Additional Secretary to the Cabinet Abu Saleh Mostafa Kamal told reporters online, "An offer was made to procure 50,000 metric tonnes of non-basmati cooked rice under Package II of FY 2020-21 through international tenders." The proposal has been recommended for approval by the Cabinet Committee on Public Procurement.

"The price of rice here was USD 404.35 per metric tonne, or Tk 34.28 per kilo. The total value of 50 thousand metric tons is 2 crore 2 lakh 18 thousand 5 hundred US dollars. Which is 181 crore 44 lakh 44 thousand Bangladeshi Taka."

Elaborating on the details of the project, the Additional Secretary said, "The rice will be imported from MS Rica Global Impacts Limited, a company in Mumbai, India."
