Bangladesh to extract gas from deep sea to solve energy crisis: PM

Dhaka, Feb 28: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said her government has decided to extract gas in the deep sea to solve the country's energy crisis and investment is required for this.

She said this in a courtesy meeting with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the International Islamic Trade Finance Corporation (ITFC) Engineer Honey Salem at the Sangsad Bhaban office on Tuesday evening. Later, PM's speech writer Md. Nazrul Islam briefed the journalists on this matter.

Highlighting the investment-friendly environment of the country, she said that the current government is creating an investment-friendly environment in the country. But investment is needed to increase employment. The government mentioned giving priority to rural economy and food production and controlling inflation.

ITFC CEO Engineer Honey Salem said that ITFC will provide all-out support in the implementation of Sheikh Hasina's Smart Bangladesh vision by investing in various sectors including infrastructure, ICT, debt management, energy sector and climate change issues. Engineer Honey Salem praised Bangladesh's investment environment and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's financial management. She pointed out that Bangladesh has an excellent track record in debt repayment.

Prime Minister's Advisor on Private Industry and Investment Salman Fazlur Rahman, Chief Secretary to Prime Minister Md. Tofazzal Hossain Mia and Economic Relations Department Secretary Md. Shahriar Quader Siddiqui were present in the courtesy call among others.
