Bangladesh, USA will work to strengthen economic ties, sustainable supply system

Dhaka, October 7: Dhaka and Washington have expressed interest in working together to further strengthen the relationship between the two friendly countries by facilitating a sustainable supply system and creating more jobs by advancing the economic partnership between Bangladesh and the United States.

The two countries stressed the importance of bilateral cooperation in overcoming the global economic catastrophe caused by the Covid 19 pandemic and building a common partnership in a free, open, inclusive, peaceful and secure Indo-Pacific region.

This was reflected in a joint statement issued by the US State Department on Monday on the progress of the US-Bangladesh economic partnership.

The U.S. embassy here said on Tuesday.

The joint statement was issued after a high-level virtual meeting on September 30, co-chaired by US Under Secretary of State for Economic Growth, Energy and Environment Keith Krach and Salman F. Rahman, Adviser to the Prime Minister on Private Industry and Investment.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed in detail various issues related to bilateral cooperation in the fields of investment, energy, digital policy, blue economy, communication and public health to build strong economic partnership and trade relations between the two countries.

In the Council meeting between the two governments on the subject of Trade and Investment Cooperation Forum Agreement (TICFA), Bangladesh called on US companies to invest in the country's economic zone.

The meeting highlighted the opportunities and possibilities for investment in various sectors in Bangladesh including energy, blue economy, communication and public health.

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam, Bangladesh Ambassador to the United States Mohammad Ziauddin, Chief Secretary to the Prime Minister and senior officials of the respective ministries and departments of both the countries attended the meeting.

As a government, trade between the two countries has doubled in 10 years and in 2019, the trade volume between Bangladesh and the United States stood at about 9 billion US dollars.
