Dhaka, November 4: The per capita income of the country has increased to USD 2,554 (Tk 2,29,860), according to the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS). In the fiscal year 2020-2021, the per capita income was USD 2,227. In the four months of the current financial year, the per capita income has increased by USD 326 or Tk 29,430.

According to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) forecast given in October, Bangladesh's per capita GDP at current prices would be USD 2,138 in 2021. Neighboring India will have a per capita GDP of USD 2,116.

Per capita income is not a single individual's income. The total national income of the country, including remittances, is the total national income of the country. That national income is divided per capita. BBS has recently finalized a new base year to calculate gross domestic product (GDP).

From the base year 2015-2016, GDP, growth, investment and per capita income have been calculated from now on. Until now, these calculations were done for the base year 2005-2006.
