Daily remittances before Eid-ul-Azha are Tk 694 crore

Dhaka, June 19: Ahead of the holy Eid-ul-Azha, the pace of expatriate income (remittance) has increased. About 6.40 crore USD or 694 crore taka (about 108 taka 50 paise per dollar) is coming to the country every day in this month of June. If the trend of remittances continues, it will reach close to two billion (over $191 crore) by the end of the month.

The latest report of Bangladesh Bank says that in the first 16 days of June this month, expatriate income of 112.59 million dollars or 12 thousand 216 million rupees has arrived in the country. About 64 million dollars or 694 million taka are coming every day in the month. If the trend of remittances continues, it will reach close to two billion or more than 191 million dollars at the end of the month. And its amount in Bangladeshi currency will exceed 20 thousand 723 crore taka.

Before that, in the entire period of last May, 169 million 16 million 30 thousand dollars came. As such, the remittance flow in this month of June is in a much better position than that of May. Officials of the relevant department of the Central Bank say that expatriates are sending remittances to their families on the occasion of Eid al-Adha. More remittances are expected to come in the rest of the time.

In the first 16 days of June, 20 crore 72 lakh 10 thousand dollars came through state-owned banks, 5 crore 92 lakh 60 thousand US dollars through specialized banks. And 85 crore 61 lakh 70 thousand dollars through private banks. Besides, remittances of 32 lakh 60 thousand US dollars have come through foreign banks.

The number of banks which have not received any remittance during the period under discussion stands at 8. These include the state-owned Bangladesh Development Bank or BDBL, the specialized Rajshahi Agricultural Development Bank or RAKAB, the private sector Bengal Commercial Bank Limited, Community Bank Limited, Citizens Bank Plc. And foreign banks include - Habib Bank Limited, National Bank of Pakistan, State Bank of India.
