Dhaka, Jan 30: Prime Minister's Private Industry and Investment Advisor Salman Fazlur Rahman said that the dollar problem will be solved soon. At the moment two things can help to reduce the pressure, one is to increase remittances and the other is to increase exports.

He told reporters at the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) building in Agargaon on Monday afternoon.

Salman F. Rahman said many new initiatives are being taken to increase exports. Exports are being diversified. Imports have decreased a lot recently. Still, the dollar is under pressure. So now we have to do two things to reduce the pressure on reserves. One is to increase remittances and another is to increase exports. This is the main task. We have to do it. The Prime Minister also said to increase exports. That is why many new initiatives are being taken. Work is being done to diversify exports here.

When asked what is the current status of your effort to create a special economic zone in Nawabganj district, he said that it has progressed a long way. Now the land will be acquired, work will start on that. This project is progressing as approved. There are some Khas (government) lands here. And most must be acquired. It is mentioned in the project.

When asked about the progress of making Mainot Ghat a tourist zone, the advisor to the Prime Minister said that 215 acres of land has already been given to the Bangladesh Economic Zone Authority (BEZA). Earlier there was a fear of river erosion. As you know, now a big project has been taken to protect the river from erosion. Now the army is working in that place. We will make a hotel-resort on that 215 acres of land.
