Domestic entrepreneurs can invest abroad: PM Hasina

Dhaka, january 25: Domestic entrepreneurs can invest in building fertilizer factories abroad, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said while discussing various development projects at a meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) on Tuesday (January 25).

After the meeting, Planning Minister MA Mannan told reporters that the Prime Minister's intention was, "We have a demand for fertilizer, but when it comes to production, there is a gas crisis. As a result, the entrepreneurs of the country will be able to invest in the construction of fertilizer factories abroad. Whether that fertilizer can be used in the country or not - that possibility could be unveiled by the private sector."

He said that the fertilizer produced abroad will meet the demand of Bangladesh. Entrepreneurs can also invest in the construction of fertilizer factories in foreign countries if they want. This will reduce the gas crisis and increase investment abroad. However, the Prime Minister asked the entrepreneurs to ensure that the interests of the country are protected first.

The planning minister said the ECNEC meeting on the same day approved a project to set up a urea formaldehyde-85 plant at a cost of Tk 724 crore. The Prime Minister said this while approving the project.

MA Mannan said the Prime Minister has asked for construction of elevated expressway at haor. This elevated expressway will have to be constructed with the help of pillars in the haor area. The Prime Minister has instructed to take all kinds of steps for this.

Highlighting the Prime Minister's directive, MA Mannan said he had asked them to build small bridges in haor where needed. So that the water can circulate properly. She also asked to keep an eye on the issue so as not to obstruct the movement of boats for the bridge. The Prime Minister has instructed to build small bridges with poles.

The minister said agricultural development in Sylhet region would also be done under the Climate Smart Agriculture and Water Management Project (CSAWMP). During the approval of the project, the issue of Haoranchal of Sylhet also came up.
